LECTURES
Week 1 — Introduction
Course Brief
Mr Hijjaz asked us to join a telegram group, and introduced himself to the
class. After that we learnt about the assessments we are required to submit,
a few things about this subject, and the softwares we will be using the
complete our assignments, which is Figma.
Week 2 — Lecture 1
UX Design Basics
In this class, we learnt about the UX Elements (Affordance, Signifier
& Feedback), as well as, what is user experience. Besides that,
we learnt about the process of UX Design, and participated in 3 class
exercises.
Week 2 Lecture Slides
Week 3 — Lecture 2
UX Audit
In this class, we learn about UX Audit (bad VS good UX Design). We also
found out the characteristics of good UX Design (Usable, Equitable,
Enjoyable, Useful), and each characteristics' detailed descriptions and
how to evaluate.
Week 3 Lecture Slides
Week 4 — Lecture 3
UX Market Segmentation
We learnt about value metrics & segmentation. We also had to
participate in a class group exercise about segment matrix.
Week 4 Lecture Slides
PRACTICALS
Week 2 — Class Exercise 1
Explain the Purpose, How to use the item, explain the poor user
experience of this item, and suggestions to improve the UX of this
item.
Group Members:
1. Yu Xuen
2. Sheryl
3. Jia Xuan
Item: Umbrella
W2 Class Exercise 1
Week 2 — Class Exercise 2
One of our sticky notes which includes the UX design process, was removed.
We were required to explain the consequences of removing the process from
all 4 UX design processes.
4 UX Design Process
- Research
- Analysis / Ideation
- Prototype
- Testing
Removed Process: Research (1st Process)
Consequences:
- do not have required data to design an infective prototype
- no aim or direction, dont know where to start (meaningless work)
- no target audience, insuffiecient knowledge or data to analyse / design / work towards
- if we do not listen, the rest of the process becomes redundant and wasteful, it wont be able to analysie, have a proper design direction, and beta tersting will be redundant because we cant do a compare and contrast from.
Week 2 — Class Exercise 3
We were required to add 1 more process into the 4 UX Design Process. Our
group decided to add "Empathy" before the first step, which is
Research.
Discussion:
- empathy allows us as designers to put ourselves in the users shoes to understand their user experience and future potential provlems that can be avoided.
- teachers answer: add auditor, that looks through / oversee all the processes, whether all the processes are going in the right direction
Week 3 — Class Exercise
Individual class exercise, we were required to choose our most recently
used app, and name functions that we wish that was in the app.
App: WhatsApp
UX Wishlist
1. Customisation
- Multiple Profile Pictures
- Customised Fonts or Language Packs
- Folders
- Pinned Messages
- Read All button
- Editing text
- Highlighted Text / Insert Link to text / Toggle for more information
Week 4 — Class Exercise
We were required to come out with a app and fill in the segment matrix
for it which consists of 4 sections: Geographic, Behavioural,
Psychographic, Demographic.
Our app idea: Fitfun
W4 Class Exercise
Week 4 — Homework
We were tasked to create a person who needs our app the most and will
rely and use it. Link to miro
here. I was grouped with Sheryl and Reenah.
W4 Homework
EXERCISE 1: INDIVIDUAL REPORT (APP)
For this exercise, we were to choose a mobile app to identify its
affordances, signifiers, mapping and feedback. The goal of this is to
recognise the aforementioned things in order to understand UX Design better.
I chose to analyse the app: Grab. My final slides can be found below.
Figure 3.1 Exercise 1 Slides (Grab App)
EXERCISE 2: INDIVIDUAL REPORT (UX Audit)
For this exercise, we had to find an application to analyse.
However, the app also needed to meet the condition of having a
physical outlet that we can visit to test how well the app works
with the in-store experience (for example, ordering a meal on the
app, and collecting the meal from the physical store). I decided to
analyse the app: Family Mart, as I am also an active consumer
of it. Attached below is my final slides.

FEEDBACK
Week 2 (Exercise 1)
- introduction be more specific, include background of grab etc.
- affordances should write FUNCTIONS or DESIGN
- users can afford to scroll for more, swipe here for --. scrollable features ---
- refine journey map, with more details
Week 3 (Exercise 2)
